Brief history
The Faculty of Engineering was established on 19 August 1989. It is the 10th faculty of Thammasat university. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the 5th department of the faculty. We started accepting students in 1996. Currently, there are 19 faculty members in Rangsit campus, and 5 faculty members in Pattaya campus.

Mechanical engineering
Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of machinery. The modern world is characterized by the ubiquity of machinery. There are numerous machines in our lives, ranging from very small to very large machines and from simple to complex machines. Mechanical engineers play an important roles and designing, developing, and construcing those machines. Mechanical engineers must understand all aspects of machines such as materials, mechanism, design methodology, dynamics, energy consumption, etc. In order to understand them, mechnical engineering students must be educated on several subjects, in addition to basic mathematics and sciences, such as engineering drawing, material science, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, numerical methods. Hands-on training on related subjects are also essential. Several mechanical engineers who have solid knowledge have decided to specialize in various sub-fields of mechanical engineering such as automotive engineering, aeronautic engineering, air conditioning engineering, etc. Graduates from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have worked as design engineers, maintainance enginneers, project engineers, sale engineers, engineering consultants, and engineering researchers in various government agencies and companies.
Vision
Our vision is to be among the top Departments of Mechanical Engineering in teaching and research.
Mission
In order to achieve the stated vision, our mission is to
  • To use proven teaching methods and tools to enhance the learning process of students so that they will gain engineering knowledge and acquire necessary technical and soft skills to succeed in their engineering careers.
  • To create new knowledge through research in mechanical engineering, and develop that knowledge into tangible outputs.
  • To foster partnerships with industrial and agriculatural sectors in order to gain from their experiences and to provide consultations that answer their needs.
